“The Queen of Code:” a Film about a Pioneering Woman Programmer

A short documentary by Gillian Jacobs pays tribute to Grace Hopper, the U.S. Navy admiral who worked on the first computer, the Harvard Mark 1.

Hopper – who passed away in 1992 – made an outstanding contribution to computer science, also leading the team that created the first compiler.

The film is part of FiveThirtyEight 's series "Signals."
